Esports Popularity & Exponential Growth

You can say “it’s not a sport” as much as you would like, however, competitive video gaming (colloquially known as Esports) — is a thing, and, it’s a big thing, that is only forecast to grow bigger and bigger. Its growing so quickly on the back of the growth of the global gaming market itself.

The global game market will hit CAD $151.5 billion in revenues this year, up 10.7 percent in the last 12 months.

Mobile gaming revenues for 2017 were readjusted upwards from CAD $60.2 billion to CAD$65.8 billion. The growth was primarily driven by a larger than anticipated growth numbers for China and Japan.

Esports is a strong part of the growth, with total Esports revenues forecast to potentially deliver CAD $3.27 billion by 2020, a figure that has been revised upwards by approximately CAD$1.3 billion in the last 12 months.

With the growing popularity of Esports games, market analysts are predicting further growth in mobile gaming as a whole. By 2020, mobile gaming is anticipated to potentially expand to CAD $187.5 billion in revenues on a global basis.
